The 4th annual Canada Day Drumming Celebration is moving online due to COVID-19 and physical distancing. Legacy 150 Celebrations Society is fortunate to be able to continue with the celebration virtually while many long-standing summer events were forced to cancel this year.
In view of the pandemic, we are celebrating Canada’s 153rd birthday in a new format with two purposes:
• To celebrate Canada Day (virtually) in an interactive way; and
• To salute healthcare and frontline workers who have given so much to keep us safe.
Encouraged by the overwhelming support, this year’s celebration will cover 10 Provinces and three Territories across 6 time zones. Many cities have answered our call and we are targeting 1000+ participants, first-come-first-served. Visit the event details page for participating cities.
The event will be broadcast from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM (PDT) with a 6-minute simultaneous drumming at 11:00 AM (PDT). It can be viewed live on the website as well as on Facebook and YouTube Live.
“We believe we are one of the few, if not the only, events to be doing a simultaneous event from coast to coast to coast. Imagine that you will be drumming in British Columbia at the same time as someone from Northwest Territories and Newfoundland & Labrador?” said Richard Wong, National Chair of the Society. “It is a unique experience and a great way to appreciate the expansiveness of Canada and to lift the spirits across the country during these challenging times.”
More importantly, we would like to thank all the essential workers. This is the perfect opportunity to thank them as one heart, one nation, one world. Drummers who wish to be part of this virtual celebration must register in advance, they are also encouraged to donate to The Frontline Fund to help with supplies, support, and research to combat COVID-19 for hospitals across Canada.
Legacy 150 Celebrations Society, a non-profit society, will donate $1,000 per Province and Territory making a total of $13,000 (thirteen thousand dollars) seed money with the intention to inspire corporates and individuals to support this wonderful cause. Donors are asked to fill in CDDC2020 under COMPANY NAME/GROUP so that Frontline Fund can provide us with the total amount raised. A tax receipt will be sent to donors from Canadahelps.org via email.
