This is the song we’re drumming towards at the Guinness World Record attempt

May 5, 2018

If you’ve been following our Vancouver celebration for a while, you may know that our international drum circle will be drumming to a piece of music for at least five minutes in order to set the new Guinness World Record.

But did you know the song we chose for this year has a history of more than 230 years?

Frère Jacques, or better known in English-speaking countries as Are You Sleeping/Brother John, is among one of the most popular nursery rhymes in the world!

PIECE OF MUSIC

* REHEARSAL VIDEO CLIP

The earliest printed version of the melody dates back to 1780, as “Frère Blaise.” It has now been translated into many languages, from the original French version of Frère Jacques, to Brother John in English, Martinillo in Spanish, Fra Martino in Italian, 两只老虎 in Chinese, 졸려 졸려 in Korean and the list just goes on!!

Did you grow up with this song? What’s the name of it in your language?
